Toynbee Hall is the lead partner of Capitalise, a London-wide partnership of organisations funded by the Money Advice Service to provide free debt advice to Londoners who are experiencing or at risk of financial exclusion and debt
The Capitalise Hub is a new initiative aimed at ensuring all Londoners have access to free impartial debt advice as and when they need it.
The Capitalise Partnership
The Capitalise Partnership is made up of 28 FCA regulated and quality assured independent advice agencies including Citizens Advice, Independent Advice Agencies and Law Centres.

A brief history of Capitalise
In 2006 The Department for Business & Innovation (BIS) tendered contracts to deliver Face to face debt advice to the residents of London. This had come about due to recent studies and reports that had identified the increase in indebtedness across London..
Toynbee Hall who were delivering debt advice in Tower Hamlets, formed a collaborative working partnership of debt advice providers covering North, south west and central London and successfully applied for the contract cowering those areas.
Another organisation applied for the east London contract but was unsuccessful whereupon BIS offered it to the Toynbee Hall partnership who, after engaging a consortium of east-London debt advisers, accepted and were now were managing face to face debt advice across the whole of London, so Capitalise had begun.
In 2010, The National Audit Office reviewed the situation
“Many people are able to manage their debt, but for some the problems may seem insurmountable. When that is the case, people need good advice which they can trust and which is accessible. BIS’s project to offer face-to-face advice has done well and has helped those who have used it. But demand is outstripping capacity and the Department needs to look at ways of reaching even more people; and it must establish a coherent framework for delivering the Government’s wider strategy for tackling over-indebtedness.” Amyas Morse, head of the National Audit Office, 4 February 2010 – (Read more here or here)
In April 2012 The Money Advice Service (MAS) took over responsibility for funding the face to face advice service provide by Capitalise, forging links between the various debt advice providers (face to face, telephone and online) as well as providing information and statistics of debt across London and the UK as a whole.
You will receive a short assessment over the phone before being booked in directly for a face to face appointment with one of the Capitalise partners or transferred directly to a telephone or online provider of advice. No queuing, just give us a call and we’ll book you in with the right provider most convenient and appropriate for you.
We are even able to provide home visits for clients with acute health conditions, use interpreters for those whose primary language is not English as well as those with hearing impairments.
